Remove unused and badly named method and variable

It was meant to visualize the active layer:

added the visualization of active layer.

It's colorspace independent, but only works in non
GL mode. Also it is highly experimental, but this
is something for you to play with.

The effect is turned on/off via the checkbox in the
layer docker
